Pretty average but feel-good battle manga
The story: Nothing to write home about to be honest. MotW type of story from the beginning and almost all the way to the end. There's way too much filler dialogue that just recaps story beats that have already happened. It was genuinely sometimes a drag to read through. Main villain is pretty much just ancient evil wants to destroy everything. The Beast Spear's and Tora's backstories are a highlight however and I liked how it tied the story together even though it felt pretty sparse otherwise. At the beginning it seemed promising. The juxtaposition between the cute (and amateurish) art style and the unsettling weird atmosphere could work to create a cool supernatural horror-esque mystery story. The chemistry between the two main characters was fine, something reminiscent of Nagatoro-san. However after the reveal of Sawada's past it was beyond redeemable. Seriously it was hilarious. One of the few times I've gotten frustrated and at the same time laughed my ass off at how stupid, angsty, and pathetic a character can get.
It's like something a 13-year old wrote when their mom took away their Xbox. There's also a hint of romance ...

(UPDATE 26/6 After reading to chapter 219, the story retconned and killed all the romantic progress and tension between Momo and Okarun but even then this is just a poorly written story.
Impressive art for a battle shonen however.) So imagine a story with surreal, absurdist imagery and humor that's so dumb and juvenile which can only be compared to FLCL and Panty & Stocking mixed in with the coolest fights against all different kinds of folklore monsters, aliens and conspiracy/urban legend myths.
