Himitsu no Recipe/The Secret Recipe has a lot of things other reviewers have had problems with. Its humour is farcical, some of the events are "ecchi" in a very light way.

But mainly, one of the main characters is very problematic. This was towards the end of the 2000s, when morally ambivalent characters weren't very common at all, and especially in yuri manga.

This came out two years before ๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ช ๐˜จ๐˜ข ๐˜”๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ช ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ ๐˜ธ๐˜ข ๐˜‹๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ ๐˜’๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ ๐˜–๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข ๐˜จ๐˜ข ๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ถ๐˜ช! and the problematic MC starts out as a popular girl like Watamote's Atsuka and ends up being nearly as cringeworthy as Kuroki Tomoko.

To expand on the summary, Tsuzubara Yuzuriko is a sheltered rich girl as wrapped up in Maria Watches Us as Tomoko in Watamote was in adult dating video games. The heart and soul of this cute series is her fantasy about what having a romantic two-girl friendshp ala Marimite would be like - basically kids roie-playing - and what actually falling in love involves. It takes that part seriously, even though the humor and flow of it is she never succeeds at it, exactly. She falls so hard in real-life love for Natsume Miyu, a new freshman that she literally can't speak to her. ...
