Maybe a bit idealistic and patriotic (very notorious it drew inspiration from Top Gun) but even though, Hideaki Anno's debut handled it to be a very complete and memorable series, despite the short runtime of 6 episodes, it were enough to develop such a great story.
Very funny in the outside but with depth subtext regarding what it means being this kind of soldier, how the course of life is different in space and while you're protecting the world in just a month, for other it might already happened a 5 years, making it very sad to realize this life isn't charming at all, because

you'll willing to miss crucial moments of your youth and adulthood for the sake of humankind, I never completed Evangelion and I heard that this series was more light comparing to the other, and the same time, it practically a very multifacetic series that transmit multiple kind of messages, and the impressive is as I said in the beginning, it achieve it in just 6 episodes, proving that Anno was already talented before making Evangelion and other praised projects.

Honestly, I never was truly interested in this Anime, nothing personal, just I'm not that indebted towards Mahou Shoujo Animes; although I developed certain interest in this work because was written by Gen Urobochi who also wrote one of my favorite Kamen Rider installments (Gaim), and because will be re-release of the film rebellion and a sequel release for this year, I thought... why not? I see it as a chance to watch it once and for all.
Honestly, I end surprised, I thought this will be a series that I certainly hate, but I was wrong, at the point that I regret not watching it

earlier, I love it !! But is like.. Urobochi, how could I doubt of that man?
Remind me a bit of Kamen Rider Ryuki, that I was informed drew heavy inspiration; still, I liked how methaporic and ironic is with its layers treatments, because in the outside you see your typical wholesome mahou shojo, but eventually it become more depth than that, and is a story very philosofical.. sad.. and make us think for a while what could happen if we experiment an scenario like the one in the series, in style is disguised as a cute rule of cool series, and while is true is has plenty of action sequences (and greatly directed btw), that aren't precisely the strong points of Madoka, but the character development through existential themes, is a story about the consequences of our own choices, about how as human being we end making reckless choices that end up changing drastically the course of our life, just because we don't want to lose people precious to us, exploring how emotional characters end up suffering for the sake of others, and the intensity we need to have in our heart if we are willing to live this kind of life. Honestly the series did a great job portraying these themes, and is the reason why I fell in love with Madoka.
Even the ending that is truly debated, I find it brilliant, I usually hate when a story ends with a time-reset (reason I hated both endings of Tokyo Revengers or Chainsaw Man Part 2), but this, was very well executed, because at the end is faithful with what I previously said, our own choices had consequences, and that's what Madoka wanted due her personality, maybe other people will have his happy ending, but the ones responsible of this miracle, needs to fight endlessly to keep this exactly as it is, because that's the harsh responsability when you became a Mahou Shoujo.
Hope the films sequels maintain this quality level !!!

Before the masterpiece called "Fumetsu No Anata E", Yoshitoki Oima debuted with "A Silent Voice", a story that maybe most of you know for the acclaimed film adaptation, but the work originally was conceived as a manga series by the mind of this talented artist-writer, and not just some manga series.... BUT A MASTERPIECE MANGA SERIES.
Our youth is the main phase where we are meant to commit plenty of mistakes, precisely because we are not experienced enough to understand what is wrong and what is right, but all our mistakes has levels of atrocity; and there are times that our behaviors are things awfully regrettable,

that we develop a state of depression. Asking ourselves existential questions as, Are we worth living? Do we have a chance to de redeemed? Questions which answers are carefully developed in this story, no matter how uncomfortable and provocative could be, but when you finished reading, you'll gonna end thinking a bit about the problem.
Whoever has experimented bullying, it clearly understand that isn't a game, neither something enjoyable, and knows well how awful an scenario like that could be; but there's also something true, not all reaction the same way to that, because depending your mental state, maybe you'll see it as something that ruined your way to enjoy life, or just a premature phase of your life; but what could happen when our past return to ourselves? how we'll act towards our formers companions? did the damage was to high to be comfortable with it pressence? And what about the aggressor himself? how he look himself after the damage he has done?
That's why a character like Shoko is important, because she never cared of being bullied, he cared that her mere pressence could get things worse, and is a person too optimistic, that she even forgave Shoya and their other companions for what they done, she only wanted to make exactly what Shoya, to understand them, and be her friends, and yea, she as well developed a phase of depression that sometimes conduce her to self-harming, but the interesting part, is that she developed it not because she suffered for the actions of them, but because she mistakenly thought that she made people to suffer, even when it was the opposite.
And now Shoya's journey to redemption, is something very multifacetic that portrays how awful is living your life with the weight of your sins, making plenty of things to get things straight, to develop a friendship with the person he once suffered, but still feeling that all its action aren't good enough to redeem himself, but at the end, he understand the he couldn't life his entire life avoiding this facts and, he needs to face things as it is his present, no matter how uncomfortable could things get, no matter how past faces he needed to encounter himself, the things he has done he can't change it, but he could start making good things for himself and the ones he love, because if we truly meant our regret, we had a chance to live our lives as we want.
At the end, the overall message of this story isn't in regard forgetting our sins, but embrace them as part of what we are, and now that we are aware of what is good and wrong, start a new phase in our lives.

Makoto Yukimura was very talented far before Vinland Saga, and this masterpiece proves it :)
I truly needed this re-read, I liked a lot this manga at first, but now I appreciate more than the previous time; I realize that those complains that push me back to consider it a "masterpiece", specially regarding the ending, were just problems of mine, and not actual issues of the story, in fact, I claim that Planetes is a perfect story from beginning to end, is just lovely what Yukimura crafted in just 4 volumes.

story that study the human behaviors, that teach us the meaning of life, and that whatever the thing we dedicate our lifes, we always going to be humans, a exploration of how society is frighten of the unknown, and how our own peculiarities, is what made us strong person, those are things that you just learn reading this amazing manga, it's a very inspirational story, and if you're experimenting a hard time, maybe this is a necessary lecture for you.
Beautiful Manga !!!!, expected from the same mind of Vinland Saga, just a while I said that I prefer Vinland more, but now that I could understand deeply this wonderful work, I truly doubt if I still prefering more Vinland because Planetes hits me harder this time, but I still have pending my re-lecture of Vinland, when the time come when I read again that story, I could decide, but still both stories great ones, and just the irrefutable prove of the genius makoto is.

Despite being probably the most authentic work from Shirow due its genre shift, unfortunately is closer to his worst works (Black Magic and Dominion) than his best ones (Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell) and to being clear that even Apleeseed and Ghost in the Shell aren't masterpieces either, and Shirow is not precisely a very cautious writer, so that gives you an idea how awful is this story.
In a single volume Orion felt as an overdeveloped story that hardly will make the lecture something enjoyable, it has a genre mix of comedy, political drama, deitys and spirits themes, but it didn't build a cohesive

storyline with the themes it offered; instead it multiply all the problems with Shirow writing, like a unnecesarry over-exposition that makes the story heavy to read but not precisely for good reasons, because there is no characters conflicts neither or an overrall well achieved critic, it's like just delivering a brainstorming but without any idea properly developed.
As always the art is great and it crafted an interesting worldbuilding, but wasted with a bad developed story and tedious narrative.
I find curious that Shirow is a truly respected author, but even his best works aren't that big deal; Appleseed is his most ambitious project but practically without an ending, and Ghost in the Shell being the most complete but its ending was very rushed. However, I get that is most appreciated for how he handled it crafting richer and innovative worldbuildings and his unique art-style, although when he made a lesser effort, you end reading so boring stuff like Orion, Dominion and Black Magic

Appleseed is totally the opposite to Shirow's previous work "Black Magic". While Black Magic is hard to read because of its terrible writting; Appleseed is a hard lecture, with tons of text and information, but that density isn't for nothing, because in contrast, now I see an improve of his vision and execution.
I end up enjoying Appleseed despite being a heavy lecture, needed to re-read parts plenty of times just to be able to end it, ironic consider that is just 4 volumes, but don't get fooled, because it has tons of information that made it equivalent to a 10 volume story. Anyway, it was

worth it, it's a very original story with an amazing world-building, great art design, political and philosofical themes and a great treatment of its themes, and Briaoreos and Deunan characters' dynamy it's very lovely, the fact I was willing to understand deeply tells you how fonded I was with this, because the lecture asks you be patient, maybe for some could be annoying, but I'm glad could saw its beauty.
Is a lecture that for me, become kind of influential, I don't doubt people felt impacted reading something like this in the 80s, but even nowadays the story hits harder because isn't that far of our own reality.
Appleseed is a story that keeps you thinking about answers; It's worth to be a perfect society? It's worth to live sticking to a particular system? It's worth to priorize perfeccionism over our own feelings? While is a sci-fi manga with an action-packed story-telling, the human layers regarding the story are present, making Appleseed a story with high value; I think people underappreciate seeing just as Ghost In The Shell proto-type rather than a story great by its own, maybe because I didn't read it yet that I felt very annoying with that, but I still thinking that is a work that deserved more value than it has.
Now, while in overrall I find it brilliant, I had a lot of complaint in the way it ended, the last volume didn't felt as an ending at all, it remains more to tell and the last volume felt very anticlimatic for being a conclusion, idk, its the main reason I can't provide a perfect note to a story, even if its something that I genuinely love and with tons of originality, that think push me back for being a masterpiece. But, I still keeping nothing low from a 7/10 rating, because the content in overrall is so brilliant that is simply impossible for me to consider it a bad manga, and at least Deunan development kept intact, even calling it mid could be inaccurate, but yea, the craft ended very incomplete and that felt kinda a waste, I truly hope this isn't a issue that repeats Ghost in the Shell and Dominion, because Shirow is so talented still not knowing how to conclude his own stories.
With flaws and all, I still considering Appleseed among my favorites mangas and step forward to Black Magic, maybe I'll end liking more Ghost in the Shell; but for now, Shirow gained my respect with what he crafted with this story. Also Deunan, Hitomi and Briareos became some of my favorites manga characters in overrall.

Very notorious that this is Shirow first work.... EXTREMELY BORING
For being just a single volume it felt an eternity to read, and not in the good way, I even needed to read it from scratch a 2nd time because I was losing the thread cause of its tedious pacing and the terrible story telling/
I don't deny that it has interesting aspects, the concept was very attractive and the political and anti-AI themes made the manga ambitious, but I can't less about it with the worthless execution of all of it; all characters are boring, just enjoy it all the dialogues surrounding Typhon and her gang,
...
and are just "entertaining" to read but not good, all besides they was pointless; not to mention that the plot is over-developed wanting to tell a lot of with a condensed time.
Just can't achieve any of its ambitions staying in something soulless, I try to like it but I couldn't, no wonder why isn't commented as other works from the author because isn't worth the time

Here the purist Buronson/Hara follower, talking about the new Fist of the Northstar adaptation, another mess or finally they had a lucky punch ?
Well, I have kind of mixed feelings, but fortunately wasn't that bad, in fact, I enjoy watching it weekly in overalll, and there are aspects that improve considerably to previous adaptations.
First able, they give what I always wanted, A FAITHFUL ADAPTATION, they respect the source material bringing something close to the Manga essense, so in that aspect I don't have any complain, there is no filler arcs, there is no terrible pacing neither censorship, just a HNK Anime in the way
...
it needs to be.
Other strong points, each episode has a very correct direction that doesn't depart to the Manga execution, so I'm glad the team production understood well the tone of the story. But now, the weak spot in this adaptation relies in the animation, while still a pretty decent CGI compared to other Anime with this style, is still felt very experimental and ackward per moments; also the use of shadows feels very weird in some parts, while an obscure tonality is consistent to the cruel world of the story, there are scenes where it looks a lot of abuse of low brightness, and that felt awfully applied, thankfully the stronger direction made you overshadow those parts, but if you're someone with a good eye you can be aware of those flaws, this is a stepback in TMS artistic choices, while TMS movies lacked of being a faithful adaptation due their decision in shorten most of the important content, at least was visually brilliant, I'd hoped they could follow the style of the Anime films, but they chose CGI instead.
So in overall, this is a pretty decent remake and a step foward to previous adaptations. I can't deny that I enjoy it, but as a Manga purist I still thinking that lacked of the visual direction that Tetsuo Hara merged in the source material; so if the question is if I recommend it over the Manga, well nope, I still prefering the source material thousands of times, but if you want to start in the franchise with one of their adaptations, this is probably the best option in comparison of previous "attempts", I just hope they could improve most of the weak points of the Anime in the upcoming seasons, because starting Season 2 they'll start adapting the most intense story arcs, and those deserve plenty of love in its making.

Third time re-reading the first half of the grand line from my favorite all time Manga !!!!!!!
One Piece is a work where I truly struggle in being objective, genuilely I find the story with very few weak points, because its strong points are more powerful than people wants to admit.
Precisely how the story develop in the pre-time skipp Era, is something not all Shonen could made, an amazing worldbuilding with tons of good writting in almost every aspect. Characters development ? THERE IS AND EXCELLENT; Complex themes and layers? YOU BET YOUR ASS THERE IS; foreshadowing? impressive plot twist? YOU WILL FIND IT. JUST

ONE PIECE HAS EVERYTHING I'M LOOKING IN A STORY, AND THAT'S THE MAIN REASON I NEVER GET TIRED IN READING IT, I LOVE VERY MUCH THIS MANGA !!!!.
BUT, if I need to mention flaws, well obviously there are, and even the more fanboy needs to recognize it, my main issue is how Oda treat the death twists, there is practically non-existent tension in that aspect because One Piece is the opposite to HNK, is more probable to see more people surviving in the most ridiculous ways than truly having worthy sacrifices, and that's a bit inconsistent with the cruel world portrayed in this story, most of the memorable deaths are present in flashbacks, and that's not something positive because are situations that you can easily predict what's happening; other aspect is that has very few entertaining fights, that is not a very big issue because every person that likes One Piece is not because of their fights, but in anyway is still a battle shonen, and it could be better if the story could offer more refined battles. But despite those issues, the strong points as the character writing and the rich world building Mr. Oda delivers totally overshadow that negative points, so isn't something that affect the almost brilliant Manga One Piece is.
I'll take a break for a few months before re-reading again the time skipp, but truly, EACH TIME I READ IT AGAIN I LOVE IT MORE BECAUSE I FIND MORE DETAILS CONNECTING IN THE STORY, IS JUST A NONSENSE THE GENUINE MASTERCRAFT EIICHIRO ODA IS

Mach GoGoGo is, for better or for worse, one of the most important manga series in the industry, serving as the basis of the iconic Anime; and partiatly, Tatsuo "farewell" as a mangaka.
Even when some may argue that this manga was just made as kind of a proto-type for the whole Anime, is still the source material and Yoshida fullest creative freedom of the IP, so I'll treat the story as what it is, a Manga story, a story that I feel mixed feelings.

time, and I also love the story ambtion portraying themes as race corruption, revenge, greed and family link, while the general argument can feel a bit over-developed, considering that Mach GoGoGo came to an industry in early development, is a crucial work.
The reason I can't considered it as good I wished, is because the ending was TRULY anticlimatic, while the main plot of Racer X was resolved, we never saw Go fully developed as a racer, and considering that is one of the main plots of the manga, felt very incomplete. In summary, Mach GoGoGo has plenty of flaws that made it a work very outdated, but his strong points are very present and that aspects made the story very fun to read, after all are just 10 chapters and is historical worth it, so in my consideration whether you like it or not, is a must read if you want to dig depper in Manga history.
