Meitantei Conan is really a trip, a classic which hase been airing since nearly 30 years, I wholeheartedly respect the author and the studio who continuesly made this show, and made it as big as it is now. Still there are always two sides to a coin, as much as I respect everyone who worked on this, I don't think this is an anime I can recommend to just anyone.
The structer of a usual episode/ a usual case, is really straight forward, the characters of that certain case are introduced, they are mostly all suspects, something happens and mostly Conan solves the case and
...
finds out who the culprit is. This is the usual scheme for every singel filler case and most of the canon cases. And with Meitantei Conan having neary 500 filler episodes, and at some point even 73% filler in 100 episodes, it becomes really repetetive.
After watching all of it, there is a new Note at the end!
Now for a little more detail on every aspect:
Stroy:
The main story, I can't lie, is really intresting, to avoid spoiler, I'll only say black organistion(b.o.).
I think there are 3 thmese that can be included in the main story. First of all, obviously, the cases, secondly the main plot with the black organisation and lastly the romantic relationship between diffrent (main-) character.
-The cases are in every episode, filler, canon and black organisation related episodes.
Overall are the cases intresting, they aren't really repetetive and nice to follow, but there again is the other side of the coin, I can only speak for myself here, but these cases are so unsolvable for the normal viewer, sometimes I try to guess who it is and how, and with more and more episodes wathed, you'll get a feeling on who it is, but you'll still be unable to guess how they did it, mostly.
-The main plot with the black organisation is a little more complicated, generally we can say all b.o.-episodes have to be canon, but not every canon episode revolves around the b.o., so they only appear a few times through out the whole anime, I would say about 2-3 episodes a year(~50 episodes) are b.o. relevant, but ever episode that is about tha b.o. still has some sort of seperate case that needs to be solved, regardles of their "existence".
-The romance, this appears everywhere but mostly in canon, the big progress is always canon, but filler also inclued some with slow progress. This overall is more like a side story so the focus rarely is on the romance part of this series, so you wont find much, but still most of the characters have some love intrest. But again their is the other side of the coin, the romance sometimes just dissappears and is in general so slow it nearly becomes irrelevant. If their is focus on one couple the othere kinda dissappear into the bvackground.
Character:
The character are good, maybe Mouri Kogorou is annoying, but he has his good sides and some really coal scenes. The chacarters don't have much progress but they sometimes grow, even if it's really slow.
Meitantei Conan, is somewhat diffrent compared to other long running series, there are a few characters that appear really often through out the show, but only conan is in every episode. For example The detective boys appear in some case and in the next case they are completly gone, same goes with Kogoro and Ran.
I do think it's a little sad that some character are "forgotton", after sometime they never really apear again and flow into the background even though they had some intresting relvant progress.
Art:
Animation: Nothing special, I would say it's above average but compared to One piece it can't hold it's own water.
Character design: You'll always know this is Meitantei conan it has a really special style, but I don't think everyone likes this style. I personally have nothing against it, but I've seen some people who din't like it, especially hwo the noses are drawn.
Sound:
I can't say much about op/ed, I can't lie I didn't really listen to them.
But the insert songs/music is good and I like the sound effects, just as One piece Meitantei Conan has a theme that sounds good and appears over the whole series.
Voice acting: The voice acting is good, each character's voice fits their design, but this anime has no scenes where the voice actor can show what they are capable of.
Enjoyment:
I personally enjoy this anime, the many cases (I never really grasp before they explain them), and the main plot, are really enjoyable but it's draged into infinity and it becomes repetetive after some times even though the cases are not, just the general structur of how an episode/case is build.
My Plot problem:
I have one big problem with this, the characters phiscally don't grow, I woudn't have a problem with it, if it were fanatsy setting but this trys to be true to the real world and he appears what annoys me. All character look exactly the same nowdays(ep 1180) compared to ep 1, but time pases because back in ep one they had those old chunks of a phone now they use smartphones.
A certain scene sticked in my mind, it was a backstory that played 10 years prior to the main story, the character in that backstory used smartphones but if we look at the actual time line they didn't even have those back in ep 1 ( which would technicly be 10 years afterwards).
This is just my opinion, and there certainly are people who would enjoy this, but I personally think the majority wouldn't enjoy Meitantei Conan and that is why i can't recommend it. By all means it's no bad anime, just not for everyone and that is also why i gave it a raiting of 8 even though I can't recommend it.
(P.s. I still don't know what those doors mean)
Personal score between 7 and 8, I only socre after enjoyment and only subjectiv. i think this is around 7.6 -> 8

After having everything completed and going from binching to weekly, I havet to admit, it is a better watch when weekly. You get to enjoy the cases a bit more and it's more fun.
That aside, to get a better expirience I can only recommend watching the movies, they aren't canon and finish in them selfs, so you can start with every single one, with a sometimes better story, they are really enjoyable. In addition the animation is way better, compared to normal Conan and you get at least the same expierince.

personal rating: 8.5/10 ( 9 because there is no 8.5 and i enjoeyed this quit a bit) I know there is a lot of hate for this anime, espacially for Himari, but i belive this hate is unjustified. First of all i feel like this anime (LN), doesn't really take its self serious, for example the situation when enomoto visits Yuu. She inhales his pillow he enters as nothing happens and then there is a few seconds silince. Can anyone say this is ment to be realistic?? Another example is the plot as a whole, ... |
