Please don't apologize for the long message! In fact, I prefer detailed responses like this. It makes the conversation much more interesting, and it's great to be able to dive deep into these topics. I have friends who also watch anime, but we don't usually talk in depth about the characters or the shows, so I really enjoy these kinds of messages.
I started watching Dragon Ball casually as a kid, and anime videos and images online caught my attention, so I looked up an anime recommendation video and just started watching.
The first anime I watched was Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April). To this day, it remains my absolute favorite anime, and the ending still hurts! After that, I watched Angel Beats, Anohana, and Clannad (all dramas), and little by little I got more into Death Note, Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, and other popular series. I got more and more enthusiastic, and over time, I started following seasonal anime (I think I've been following the seasons since 2014 or 2015).

I completely understand that feeling of having to keep watching a highly praised series. It reaches a point where watching it feels more like a 'chore' than entertainment, even if the writing is objectively good.
When that happens to me (especially with a long series like that), if I feel it's becoming an obligation, I just take a break and watch something else. That's exactly what I did with Gintama. I got a bit bored and found it hard to keep watching, so I moved it to my 'Plan to Watch' list and focused on other things. When I eventually picked it back up, I enjoyed it so much more and it was way easier to get through.
Also, what you mentioned about Hinata really resonates with me! When I watched Naruto, I loved that kind of growth she had, starting from the bottom and gradually winning Naruto over. That is definitely another reason for me to give Black Clover a try!!!!
Have you been watching anime for a long time? I started when I was 12, and I'm 24 now.

I tried watching Black Clover when it first premiered, but I dropped it because Asta stressed me out too much. It was the first and only time I've ever dropped an anime because of a character, but from what I saw, it was very popular and has great fights, so I'd like to give it a second chance sometime in the future.
Right now, I've started watching Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO). I've seen a couple of episodes and I'm really liking it. It's a perfect 'chill' series to just enjoy episode by episode

I really liked Nana. I don't usually watch that type of anime because they tend to have very sad stories and mature themes, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and I know it was hugely popular back then.
Is there anything you're looking forward to in the upcoming anime season? I'm planning to take the opportunity to watch The Apothecary Diaries and the Ranma 1/2 remake

I love taking breaks by watching older anime (I'm currently making my way through shows from the 2000s). The episodic format relaxes me, and I absolutely love slice-of-life. I don't think I'll end up watching the mermaid one, but I'll add it to my 'Plan to Watch' list.
Regarding Ghost in the Shell, I've only seen a couple of episodes, but not because I didn't like it. It's just that during the anime season, I tend to focus on the shows I like the most. When the season ends, I take the opportunity to catch up on everything I left pending, so I'll probably finish it in a couple of weeks. I heard it's a much more faithful adaptation than the movies, and I'm glad you're enjoying it (I've only seen the movies, including Innocence; the old series is still on my list, and I've heard it's really good).
Right now, I'm watching the 3rd Gintama movie and I'm absolutely loving it. It's an anime I really enjoy, and it makes me laugh a lot. This movie has fantastic animation and includes scenes that weren't in the TV anime. Once I finish the movie, I'm going to resume Tensei Shitara Slime (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime).

Cinderella Gray is amazing, I really liked it, and it's not too long, so it would be a great starting point. It has many funny and heartwarming moments, and the races convey a lot of excitement. It also features a huge variety of very distinctive characters.
I saw that you're following Tenmaku no Jaadugar (me too, and I'm really enjoying it) and Yomi no Tsugai. Excellent choices!! If I have time, I'd like to watch Sayonara Lara (Goodbye, Lara), but I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up with it this season due to work and other commitments.

Sorry for taking so long to reply! Uma Musume has really good animation and is very similar to sports anime (spokon). Personally, I recommend watching this anime because you can watch its seasons and movies without having to follow a specific order. I recommend starting with the movies or OVAs, since they aren't very long and they're a good way to see if you like the anime!!!

Haha the Tenrou Island OST is even sicker with what Takanashi did with the main theme there. Like, it’s basically metal. Fairytail on roids. But yeah, it sounds to me like you got let down by Fairytail a great deal and that always blows. Like you almost WISH it were better since you enjoyed its foundation & overall character interplays. The arcs and tropes just didn’t jive well with you and I totally get that being a Dragonball fan myself.

Though, I could argue that in general the word “clone” is hard for me to connect with in describing the way the MCs are designed at least, since so much anime has this same simpleminded dimwit character trope for the mains, it’s practically everywhere and has been LONG before Dragonball showed up if we are talking fictional narratives as a whole. We could call tons of shit Stan Lee or Jerry Siegel clones if going by that same logic.

I still see your angle though, and I appreciate you seeing eye to eye with me in the family friendship aspect of Fairytail at least. I certainly wish it had been a better watching experience for you. It sucks when a series pulls us halfway in like that, keeps us slightly hooked, then drops the ball on our expectations like that! For sure.

I do not see many resemblances between Dragonball and Fairytail but I still get what you meant by that. Yeah, I tend to be loyal to series I watch all the way thru like with Fairytail. And the series (even with its immense fan service) seems more suited for people new to anime or young people (particularly the manga). Though, in so many words, the reason it’s amongst my favorites since this is the purpose of you asking, is that it holds a special place in my heart since I (yah it’s boohoo time) like many of the characters in the show, didn’t have parents and was placed in homes that felt foreign to me often. So it was and is special to me, in a “comfort show” type way.

The series highlights quite well the aspect of gaining family within friendship for real life orphans having gone thru similar experiences I believe. Especially if you watched it during your formative years like me. And while there are other series’ that certainly play into that same motif, Fairytail particularly relies on the element of friendship & family. So, maybe others who have it favorited also share that same sentiment toward the series, I don’t know. But it’s certainly a possibility.

Fairytail is mainly just nostalgic to me. It was one of the first shounen anime I picked up seasonally as it began airing [alongside naruto shippuden] It was also one of the first I watched purely in sub on crunchyroll, and this was all the way back when I was a freshman in highschool, so I really looked forward to watching it when I got home. Not gonna get too deep but basically the idea of having a family or gaining one within friendship was very resounding to me back then. It was also one of the first manga I read mostly in full.

I couldn’t tell you if I read or watched it now from start to finish I would call it a masterpiece, since taste in anime/manga tends to change with time for pretty much any weeb I guess. The OST/music was fire indeed, for every new season it was exceptional pretty much always. And I mainly loved all the women truthfully, with obviously Erza for her strength but also her random girly side & love of picnics hahaha. Also had huge crushes on Juvia, Cana, and Brandish.

I’m not a very picky person with anime either, so while I understand Fairytail isn’t considered something elite, it’s still one that I could never call bad. [that’s just my subjective opinion of course, possibly laced with some nostalgic bias, which should be kept in mind]
So for this reason I equally enjoyed the new adaptation 100 Years Quest. May I ask what spurred your inquiry? Was it a recent watch for you or something you saw forever ago like me?

I do agree that watching Zero before Stay night does make it less suspenseful since it spoils cliff hangers or plot points

3 Years later, I may have to go back and re-rank them especially SAO Underworld that one may have to go down in score. As for UBW it was a great story to me and since it was the best route!
